What to expect during Physical Examination

Vital Signs

  • Blood Pressure – Less than 120 over 80 is a normal blood pressure. 140 over 90 or higher is already an high blood.
  • Heart Rate – 60 to 100 values are considered normal.
  • Respiration Rate – 12 to 16 breaths per minute is normal for a healthy adult. But,  a breathing more than 20 minutes can suggest having lungs or heart problem.
  • Temperature – 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit is the average.

General Appearance – By just watching and talking to you, the doctor can already gather a health information of you.

Heart Exam – The doctor will listen your heartbeat using stethoscope (irregular heartbeat, heart disease and heart murmur).

Heart and Neck Exam – The quality of your gums and teeth can also detect an overall information about your health.

Abdominal Exam – Detecting liver size, listening of your bowel sound by stethoscope, presence of abdominal fluid and etc.

Neurological Exam- Strengths of your muscles, nerves, balance, reflexes and etc.

Dermatological Exam – Findings of your skin and nails.

Extremities Exam – Checking your physical and sensory changes.
